Falling on the heels of Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday has become a global phenomenon — a worldwide day of giving fueled by the power of social media. This past November 28, over 335 students, faculty, staff and alumni contributed some of their #GivingTuesday dollars to UC San Diego, making philanthropy a new nontradition.
In just 24 hours, #GivingTuesday raised almost $60,000 from 336 donors who made gifts online and in person. Inspiring gifts through email blasts and social media posts to the UC San Diego community, three on-site events attracted over 1,250 total visitors at the Career Services Center, Thornton Hospital and Hillcrest Medical Center. Donors donned “I Gave” stickers and mingled with Annual Giving staff while enjoying free kettle corn and snow cones. Students also signed an oversized thank you card, which will be shared virtually with our donors.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to UC San Diego’s #GivingTuesday success!
